What time will you turn up?
We will agree a mutually convenient time with you as accurately as possible. If your job is booked for the morning, the team will generally arrive between 8.30am and 9.00am. If your job is booked for the afternoon, it is harder to estimate arrival times, but it is likely to be around 1.30pm.
Do I have to provide electricity?
No. We are self-sufficient - all our power tools are powered by petrol.
Do I need to be in?
No, although you are of course welcome to stay around if you like! If we are reducing a conifer hedge, it is helpful if you can be there at the start, to confirm the exact height.
Do my neighbours need to know work is happening?
There are times when it is helpful to be in touch with your neighbour about the work, for example if the tree lies on a boundary between the two properties. There are occasions where it is appropriate to access the tree or from a neighbouring property, in which case you may need to ask permission.
Can you cut the wood up for firewood?
Certain trees burn better than others, for example willow and poplar are not fantastic, but will burn if you persevere. Also, most conifer woods are likely to tar up your chimney unless seasoned for at least 2 years. In many cases we can cut the larger wood up into rings ready for splitting for use as firewood, although this may add to the cost of the job. If you would like this option, please ask us when we come to do the original quote.
Can I have the woodchip for my garden?
We process the smaller pieces of wood (up to 6 inches across) and leaves through the chipper. This results in woodchip which makes an excellent mulch, particularly once it has composted down a little. Please let us know if you would like to keep the woodchip, as this will help us plan the job.
When and how do I pay?
We will send you an invoice soon after completing the job. You can pay by direct bank payment (BACS), cheque or cash. We never demand cash on completion of a job, although we would not of course turn it down. We do not accept discounts for cash, as everything goes through the books however it is paid for.
Will you send me a written quote?
We normally send out written quotes.
Will the price change from the price given on my quote?
The price will only vary from that given on the quote if the scope of the job changes as a result of mutual agreement with you. If the job remains the same, the price remains the same.
What happens if the weather is bad?
It is possible that on some occasions we may have to postpone work due to bad weather, especially high winds, thunderstorms, ice and snow. If this does arise, we will contact you as soon as we know, and re-arrange the work for a mutually convenient time.
How do you remove a stump?
We will normally grind stumps out using a machine called a stump grinder, which reduces the stump to woodchips. These are normally left on site. Sometimes, we will winch stumps out instead, depending on the site, size and type of stump.
Are you insured?
Yes. We have Public Liability Insurance up to £5Million, which allows us to work on trees bordering the public highway. It is worth mentioning that we have never needed to make a claim.
